RECLAMATIONS AND SEAWALLS
229. In spite of encountering a high percentage of rock, good progress was maintained on the three contracts for site formation. Soft material from these contracts totalling 282,000 cubic yards was used to complete the first two stages of the reclamation and 390,000 cubic yards of excavated rock was dumped on sites where it was known that no piled foundations would be required in the future.
230. A seawall 1,274 feet in length to retain the dumped material was practically finished and a contract was let for the formation of sites for a police station and resettlement staff quarters. This latter project involved the levelling of an adjacent hill to provide the 155,000 cubic yards of filling required.

231. This reclamation which had been suspended in the previous years pending a decision on the resiting of the Kowloon-Canton Railway terminus was approved and enlarged to embrace Cust and Rumsey Rocks. The additional area was able to accommodate much of the spoil from the site formations for the Military Hospital and service reservoir at King's Park.
