133. At the end of the year there were 832 Government vehicles comprising 225 cars and light general purpose vans, 445 lorries and special purpose vehicles and 132 motor cycles. Amongst other items a collating table was designed and constructed for the Government Printer and Radio-Cobalt Telecurie equipment was installed for the Medical Department at Queen Mary Hospital. The number of jobs carried out showed an increase of 33% over the previous year.

136. As in previous years the operation of the Transport Pool was satisfactorily maintained and 183 vehicles were operated from the two main pools situated at the workshops in Hong Kong and Kowloon respectively and 28 vehicles from the two sub-pools at the Colonial Secretariat and Kowloon Post Office respectively.

137. 113 applicants for posts as drivers were tested and 43 who passed the test were engaged.
