General.
128. As in previous years this sub-department performed its function of carrying out all work in connexion with Government vehicles, electrical and mechanical plant including lifts, motors, constructional plant, printing machines, boiler installations, air-conditioning plant, refrigerators and domestic appliances.
Mechanical Section.
129. In March a service depot was opened at Fan Gardens in the New Territories as a subsidiary of the Kowloon Workshop for the purpose of maintaining and servicing all vehicles and equipment located within the Taipo-Castle Peak Area.
130. New Workshop equipment received and put into use included a 23" swing X 6 ft. bed heavy duty lathe and a Hartridge diesel injector nozzle lapping machine.
131. New mechanical plant received and prepared for use included three 10-ton diesel road rollers fitted with hydraulic scarifying equipment, one 6 cwt. vibrating roller, three 105 C.F.M. and one 210 C.F.M. portable air compressors, one 4-cu. yd. dumper, two 6-ton petrol-electric mobile cranes and two 95 H.P. crawler tractors with bulldozer equipment.
132. A second 55 KW emergency diesel generating set was installed at Queen Mary Hospital and one 6 KW and eight 3 KW emergency diesel generating sets were installed at various Police posts. At the end of the year the total number of emergency generating sets in service and under the care of this sub-department was 64 totalling 536 KW,
