Electrical Section.
138. The installation of air-conditioning plant for the New Government Offices (720 tons of refrigeration) and the New Police Headquarters (220 tons of refrigeration) proceeded satisfactorily. The equipment continued to arrive from the manufacturers ahead of promised delivery dates.
139. Air-conditioning installations completed during the year included a 15 ton equipment for the Control Room, Central Police Station, twelve room model units for Heads of various Departments, room model units for the Seismograph Chamber, Royal Observatory, and the strong room in the General Post Office. Refrigerated chambers were installed at the Victoria Mortuary and the Pathological Institute. Ventilation systems were installed in Queen Mary Hospital Sterilizer Room, Peninsula Hotel C.A.S. Control Room and the General Post Office Basement.
140. In addition designs were prepared for air-conditioning installations at New Clinic, Wanchai, Film Censor Theatre and Control Tower, Kai Tak Airport.
A new 1,200 lb. 100 ft./min. passenger lift was installed in the Fire Brigade Building to replace a worn-out and obsolete lift.
141. The floodlighting of Government House and illumination of Government House gardens for H.R.H. the Duchess of Kent's visit was satisfactorily carried out. The assembling of the fluorescent stage lighting equipment with full dimmer control for use on the stages of Government schools was completed. This is the only equipment of its type in the Colony and it has proved very successful.
142. Eight sirens were installed at various points in the Colony and sundry wiring work was carried out in Waterworks pumping stations, workshops and quarters.
