225. Lectures on Force Welfare were given to recruit Police Constables at P.T.S., Probationary Inspectors, and at Advanced Training Courses at P.T.S. by S.O./Welfare.

ENTERTAINMENT

226. 19 Launch Picnics were held during the year for the families and members of the Rank & File and were well attended. Food parcels and refreshments were provided and expenses were met from the Police Welfare Fund.

RETIREMENT PARTIES FOR THE RANK & FILE

227. An innovation brought in on 1st January, 1967 is the holding of tea parties for retiring members of the Rank & File and the presentation of retirement gifts. Expenses for these are met by voluntary subscriptions at 20c. per head and retiring officers are presented with a standard memento in the form of a miniature Police Badge in 18K gold on a wooden stand, or a gift of the officer's own choice, usually a wrist watch. A picture of the presentation ceremony is also taken and presented to the retiring officer as a souvenir.

HONG KONG POLICE SPORTS ASSOCIATION

228. The association is concerned with all Force representative Sports and is open to all members of the Force including members of the civilian staff, Auxiliary, and Police pensioners. It is controlled by a General Committee comprising members elected annually by the full members. The Chairman, the Staff Officer, Welfare, and one representative from each Command to serve as ex officio Committee Members are nominated by the Commissioner of Police who is ex officio President of the Association. Each branch of sport has a sub-committee to run its own activities. Annual inter-divisional competitions are held from which individual per- formances in particular sports are assessed for Force representation.

229. The most popular games amongst the Rank & File are football, basketball, athletics, swimming, billiards, volleyball and table tennis. In addition, boxing, judo, cricket, lawn bowls, rugby, tennis and squash have a good following and representative teams participating in the various Colony Leagues have done well.

230. Events held during the year were the Annual Gala on Saturday 24th September, 1966 at the Victoria Swimming Pool and the Annual Police
