covered as compared with 55 last year, 916 officers attended the Govern- ment Chest Clinic and tuberculosis was found quiescent in 180 cases and arrested in 107. 30 Police officers were admitted to hospital for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.

218. Regular visits are paid to Police personnel in Government Hospi- tals by the Staff Officer Welfare and his staff in order to render any assist- ance requested by the patients or families. Books and magazines are regularly distributed to patients the cost being met from the Police Welfare Fund.

HEALTH

219. The number of working days lost during the year on account of sickness was 30,321. Sick leave for officers amounted to 3,110 days and for other ranks to 27,211. Tuberculosis accounted for 4,798 man-days lost as against the previous year's figure of 3,538.

MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

220. 25 sessions on Maternal and Child Health for Police wives were held by the Medical and Health Department at Arsenal Street, and 14 sessions at Cheung Sha Wan Road, a total of 2,396 cases being dealt with.

221. The Hong Kong Family Planning Association gave four lectures and film shows at various Police Rank & File Married Quarters in Hong Kong and Kowloon.

CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES

222. The latest Rank & File Consumers Co-operative Society opened in December, 1966 at the Kennedy Town Police Rank & File Married Quarters making a total of five. All the Societies had another successful year, the gross turnover of the four older ones amounting to $1,487,000.

223. Appreciation is due to the staff of the Co-operatives Division of the Agriculture and Fisheries Department for their assistance and advice, especially in establishing the new Co-operative Society at Kennedy Town Married Quarters.

WELFARE COMMITTEE

224. Staff Sergeants' Monthly Welfare Meetings were held regularly throughout the year, and matters raised in these meetings were dealt with by the Staff Officer, Welfare.
