162. At the end of the year, China Motor Bus Co. Ltd. were operating 27 regular routes, and, in addition, two holiday services to the beaches and three special services on race days. The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. had 64 routes in operation, 39 in Kowloon and 25 in the New Territories. The bus service which Kowloon Motor Bus had operated on Lantau Island since April 1960 under a special franchise, was terminated on 31st October, 1965, because the Company felt it could not operate a satisfactory service whilst its management was based in Kowloon. However, on 29th December, 1965, the first of two prospective Lantau operated bus companies was granted a franchise to operate services.
TRANSPORT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
163. Following the formation of the new Transport Office and the appointment of a Commissioner for Transport on 26th November, 1965, the then Advisory Committee on Public Transport was dissolved and reconstituted under the new title of Transport Advisory Committee. The Traffic Advisory Committee, of which the Deputy Commissioner of Police was Chairman, was also dissolved and its functions absorbed by
