CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT
AMENDMENT TO ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION
The Directors propose to make certain
amendments to the Company's
Articles of Association so as to bring them in line with current legislation and
the stock exchange listing requirements. A resolution to this effect will be put forward for Shareholders' approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting to
be held immediately before the forthcoming Ordinary Yearly Meeting. on 14th June, 1990. Further details will be included in a Circular to Shareholders to be despatched together with the 1989 Annual Report.
OUTLOOK
In overall terms, ridership is likely to
remain fairly constant over the next
year or so. The gradual depopulation of Urban Kowloon will be offset by
the growth of the new towns
especially Ma On Shan and Tseung
Kwan O, and will result in a continued
shift in ridership to the New
Territories routes. The recent changes
of Government policy to allow more
non-franchised buses to provide
residents' services and the drastic increase in fuel duty imposed by Government on 7th March, 1990 are matters of some concern.
On a more positive note, air- conditioned buses will be operated to meet the higher demand for comfort. It is envisaged that the use of air- conditioned vehicles will improve KMB's ridership.
