In 1987, an average of 2.98 million

passengers per day rode on the

Company's buses (1986: 3.04 million)

giving a total of 1,088 million passengers for the year (1986: 1,108 million), a decrease of 1.8%. But the actual

distance travelled by the Company's buses went up by 6.6%, to a total of 209 million kilometres. For the year under review, the average number of buses in service each day increased by

5.5% from 2,219 to 2,341, whilst the

number of passengers carried per bus each day decreased 7% from 1,370 to 1,273.These figures make it clear not

only that overcrowding at peak hours. has been reduced and waiting times
