Another reason for the drop in daily
ridership was the worsening traffic
congestion. Ridership had been
particularly affected on routes from
Shatin and the Eastern New Territories
to Kowloon as a result of the severe
congestion at the Lion Rock Tunnel.
Summer ridership also dropped due to the very hot weather in the summer months this year. Some passengers
changed to the air-conditioned modes of transport, such as the MTR, KCR,
PLB's and taxis. The cancellation by the Government of the student subsidy during the school summer holiday has also contributed to the reduction in ridership during that period.

每日乘客量下降之另一理由乃日趨惡劣 之交通擠塞情況。由沙田及新界東部出 九龍路線之乘客量因獅子山隧道嚴重 擠塞而特別受到影響。
夏季乘客量亦由於本年夏季月份天氣 十分炎熱而下降。部份乘客轉乘有空調之 運輸工具,例如地下鐵路、九廣鐵路、
小巴及的士。政府取消學校暑假期間之 學生車船津貼亦導致該段期間乘客量 減少。
