REVENUE AND OPERATING COSTS
In the year under review, revenue and operating costs increased by 17.6% and 12.9% respectively as compared with the previous year. The increase in
revenue was due mainly to the fare increase effected on 「st February, 1987--
The increase in operating costs was
largely due to wage increases and the
improvement of services under the
Route Development Programme: the added passenger capacity greatly
reduced overcrowding and waiting time on many routes.
With effect from 1st June, 1987, our 9,100 daily-rated employees received a pay-rise of 6%. This represented an additional cost to the Company of $39 million for the full year. Included in the pay-rise was an increase in both the
Good Service Bonus and the Safe
Driving Bonus for Bus Captains to $25
per working day respectively, good
investments to enhance safety and give better service to the public.
As a result, the current average
monthly take-home pay for bus captains
operating 2-axle buses amounts to
about $6,000 and for those on the
larger 3-axle buses about $6,500. A new bus captain gets a starting monthly pay of $5,200. Furthermore, the retirement benefits for employees with over 25 years service were upgraded from 「st December, 1987.

一九八七年度之收入及經營成本較去年 分別增加百分之十七點六及百分之 十二點九。收入增加主要是由於從 -一九八七年二月一日起生效之加費所致。 經營成本增加主要是因為薪金增加, 以及依照路線發展計劃作出改善服務之 額外開支;增加之載客量多條路線之 擠逼情況及候車時間均大為改善。
由一九八七年六月一日起,本公司之 九千一百名日薪員工獲加薪百分之六。 是項加薪使本公司之成本以全年計增加 三千九百萬元。其中包括提高為車長
所設之良好服務獎勵金及安全駕駛獎勵金 各至每一工作天二十五元。此等獎勵實 為提高行車安全及提供更佳服務之 良好投資。
經是次加薪後,駕駛兩軸巴士之車長 現時每月收入約達六千元,而駕駛較 大型三軸巴士車長則約六千五百元。 新入職車長之起薪達五千二百元。另外, 服務超過二十五年之員工之退休福利於 一九八七年十二月一日得以改善。
