120. In December 1973, the Telegraph Control Centre was moved to Cable and Wireless' new Hong Kong headquarters, New Mercury House. The removal was carried out without interruption to the services.

STAFF WELFARE

121. During the year subsidies were given from the Staff Welfare Fund to the Post Office Recreation Club to help towards the Annual Children's Party and other staff activities sponsored by the Club. Interest-free loans totalling $20,050 were made to 28 members of the staff who were in need of financial assistance.

122. The Departmental Welfare Officer continued to pay visits to staff on long term sick-leave at home or in hospital, and small gifts were given to them as a token of good wishes from the Department.

Post Office Recreation

123. The Post Office Recreation Club was incorporated in Novem- ber 1973, with the Cable and Wireless Sports Club into a limited liability company known as "The Post Office and Cable and Wireless Recreation Club Limited'. The grounds at Caroline Hill occupied by the two clubs adjoin and the limited company was created in order to facilitate the renewal of the ground lease with Government. The two clubs, however, continue to operate under separate management.

Bathing Pavilions

124. The Club swimming pavilions at Stanley and Ting Kau were frequently used by the staff during summer. The bathing shed at Stanley was refurbished in March 1974, to meet requirements of the Urban Services Department.

Social Activities

125. A barbecue and dance party was held in the Club House on 10th November, 1973.

126. A cocktail party was also held in the Club House on 6th January, 1974, in honour of Mr. LI Yun-gun, Senior Controller of Posts, who had been Chairman and official of the Club for many years and was retiring from the service. The party was attended by nearly 150 people. A souvenir was presented to Mr. Li by the Club as a gesture of gratitude for his services to the Club.
