population of less than one million are being adapted to meet the postal requirements of a population inflated to nearly 21 million.
60. The continually rising pressure is adequately illus- trated by the rapid rise in both traffic and revenue but we have reached bursting point to such an extent that at Kowloon Post Office it has become immediately necessary either to obtain additional space or to curtail the facilities offered.
61. The same problem arises in the lack of adequate Branch Post Offices as opposed to the existing stamp selling Kiosks in that the deliveries for the whole circuit of the Island must of necessity emanate from the Head Office in Victoria thus pro- ducing an unfortunate disparity between effective delivery time and non-effective travelling time of the delivery postmen.
62. There is also persistent pressure for the provision of postal facilities at the more populous islands such as Lantao, etc., but here again the accommodation problem is the deciding factor. A modified service has been introduced in the Silvermine Bay area and although most popular, it cannot be considered an adequate substitute for a permanently based office.
