66. Other welfare measures can be taken to include in particular Postal Training Classes for the clerical grades and English classes for the Uniformed Staff, which are due to commence on 1st April, 1954. Both are likely to be patronized far beyond our anticipated capacity which was 25 clerks and 20 postmen respectively. The classes are voluntary and inquiries have produced 98 applicants for the clerical class and 163 for the English classes.
CONCLUSION
67. I referred last year to having reached the peak of efficiency in the Traffic field but whilst that peak has been main- tained it must be admitted that we have also gone beyond our available capacity to handle the traffic pouring in and additional space becomes imperative. That in these circumstances the efficiency has been maintained is due solely to the hard work and team spirit of a staff who now have the interests of the Depart- ment and Public at heart and whose enthusiam is so adequately depicted in my paragraph 66 above. I cannot refrain from recording my sincere thanks to them for their loyal co-operation in our aim for utmost service.
