AMENDMENT OR REPEAL.
21. The Widows' and Orphans' Pension Ordinance, 1908. (No. 15 of 1908), ---contd.
(a) 'Child' means the child of an officer by his wife, born after marriage;"
(ii) by the renumbering of the former paragraph (a) as paragraph (b);
at the end of
(iii) by the repeal of the words by his wife, born after marriage paragraph (c);
(iv) by the repeal of paragraphs (g) and (h) and the substitution therefor of the following new paragraph (g)—
(g) 'Wife' means the lawful wife of any officer married to him by a Christian marriage or its civil equivalent, or in the case of Chinese the kit fat or tin fung, or in the case of any other Asiatic nation, the principal wife; and 'widow' shall be con- strued accordingly.'

(2) Section 3, as amended by Ordinances Nos. 9 of 1929 and 2 of 1931, is further amended-

(i) by the insertion of the figure "(1)” in the first line immediately after the figure 8.";
(ii) by the deletion of the figure "(1)" at, the beginning of the second line;
(iii) in sub-section (1)—
(a) by the repeal of the words and figures "on or after the first day of January, 1930," in paragraph (a); (b) by the insertion of the word "and" at the end of paragraph (b), the repeal of the word "and" at the end of paragraph (e) and the repeal of paragraph (d);
(iv) in sub-section (3), by the substitu tion of the word
"has

shall have in the third line;
(v) by the repeal of sub-section (4).
(3) Section 3A, as enacted by Ordinance No. 9 of 1929 and amended by Ordinance No. 2 of 1931-
(1) sub-section (3) is amended by the in- sertion at the end of the following words-
or such extended period as the Governor in Council may in any particular case allow ";
(ii) the following three sub-sections are substituted for sub-sections (4), (5) and (6)—
(4) An officer who under this section has obtained exemption from becoming a contributor under this Ordinance may not subsequently become a contributor under this Ordinance unless--
(a) he ceases to contribute to the ap-
proved scheme, or
