shall-

329.—(1) Every tank shall be ventilated by a pipe which

(a) have an internal diameter of at least one inch,

(b) be of such height as may, in the opinion of the Chief Officer of the Fire Brigade, be necessary having regard to the proximity of fire escapes, staircases, windows or doors,

(c) terminate in a goose neck, and

(d) be covered at the upper end with double fine brass wire gauze having a mesh of not less than 28 to the linear inch.

(2) Paragraph (1) of this regulation shall not apply to any other system of ventilation approved by the Chief Officer of the Fire Brigade.

330. No tank shall be situated under premises used wholly or in part for residential purposes, except with the permission of the Licensing Authority.

331. No tank having a capacity exceeding 140 gallons shall be repaired in any manner involving the use of hot rivets or other source of artificial heat until a certificate by an approved person that the tank has been thoroughly ventilated and rendered free from inflammable vapour has been produced to the Licensing Authority.

332. Every tank shall be filled by means of an armoured hose connected by screwed unions to the tank and to the receptacle from which the tank is filled.

333. Every precaution shall be taken to prevent evapo- ration and leakage of inflammable liquid during the filling of any tank.

334. Every pipe with the exception of the pipe men- tioned in regulation 329 shall project into the tank nearly to the bottom of the tank and shall terminate in such a way as to provide at all times a liquid seal at the bottom of the pipe except in the case of an approved alternative design.

335. Every pipe shall be connected to the tank by flanges of reinforced metal securely riveted, welded, or bolted to the tank and rendered completely leak proof.

336. (1) Every pipe, with the exception of the pipe mentioned in regulation 329, shall be fitted with a cover,

(2) Every such cover shall be-

(a) fitted with a lock, the keys of which shall be in the custody of a responsible person,

(b) kept securely locked except when the pipe which it protects is actually in use, and

(e) impervious to inflammable vapour.

337.--(1) No pump shall be nearer than twenty feet to any fire escape, staircase, window, door, or other means of egress from any premises not used in connexion with the supply of inflammable liquid from such pump.

(2) Nothing in paragraph (1) of this regulation shall prevent the erection of a pump or pumps nearer than twenty feet to the main entrance to or to the main exit from a garage which is constructed of fire resisting materials.
