(i) the number of beds,
(ii) the floor area in square feet (including the space oc- cupied by the beds) divided by 12, or
(iii) the cubic capacity divided by 84.
The accommodation within public rooms reserved for second class passengers is also to be included, the number allowed being determined in a manner similar to that indicated for first class public rooms except that the divisors are to be 21, 12 and 84 respectively.
(d) Unberthed Passengers. The maximum number of unberthed passengers to be allowed in respect of any com- partment otherwise approved for their accommodation is to be determined by dividing the available clear area of such compartment in square feet as follows:-
On the main deck by 6.
On the deck next above the main deck by 9.

The clear area of the unberthed passenger spaces is
to be measured in accordance with the definition contained in paragraph 25 (6) so far as this is applicable and provided that no space is to be included in the meaurements which is
(i) Less than 6 feet in clear height.
(ii) Less than 2 feet 6 inches in either dimension. (iii) Abreast the boiler and machinery casings on the main deck.
(iv) Abreast the deckhouses on the deck next above the main deck.
(e) Stability. The total number of passengers to be allowed on any river steamer is to be limited according to the surveyor's judgment having regard to the stability of the ship.
(ii) PILGRIM TRADE.
45. GENERAL. The passenger accommodation is to be in accordance with the instructions relating to passenger accommodation for ships engaged on international and short international voyages in trades other than the pilgrim trade, subject to the modifications and additions indicated in the following paragraphs 46 to 51.
48. VENTILATION.-(Alteration and addition to para- graph 12).
(1) Sub-paragraph (1) (a). The proviso is not to apply. Add the following sub-paragraph.
(3)—(e) At least 1,660 cubic feet of fresh air per hour is to be provided for each pilgrim accommodated below the uppermost between deck.
47. WASHPLACES.-(Alteration to paragraph 16). Sub-paragraph (2) (a). Substitute 16 square feet for 9 square feet.
