Cooking ranges and rice boilers, etc., where fitted, are to be within properly constructed steel houses. The decks forming the floor and crown of the galleys are to be com- pletely plated over in way thereof and doors are to be of steel.
39. HOSPITALS, ETC.-Paragraph 19 is not to apply.
40. HATCHWAYS.-Paragraph 20 is not to apply.
41. ARRANGEMENTS WHERE LIVESTOCK ARE CARRIED.- Paragraph to be substituted for paragraph 21. Arrangements are to be made in conformity with the requirements of Table F in the Regulations of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1899.
42. INSULATION.Boiler casings and galleys within or adjacent to passenger spaces above the between decks are to be suitably insulated.
43. SHIPS OF UNUSUAL DESIGN.In the case of a river trade ship of unusual design the Principal Surveyor of Ships shall have full discretion as to the manner in which any of the relevant instructions are to be interpreted and applied.
44. NUMBER OF PASSENGERS. (a) Except in special circumstances, the number of decks upon which passengers may be carried is not to exceed three, i.e., the main deck and two decks above. It is not required that exercise space be provided either for passengers or crew.
(b) First Class. In addition to the number of properly fitted beds and full length (6 feet) sofas within cabins, the accommodation within public rooms such as dining saloons and lounges allocated for the use of such passengers is to be included.
The number of passengers to be allowed in public rooms is to be the least number computed in accordance with the following three methods, viz. :—
(i) Seating. According to the seats available. In the case of continuous seats a length of 24 inches is to be allowed for each passenger.
(ii) Floor Area. In the proportion of one passenger for each 15 square feet.
(iii) Cubic Capacity. In the proportion of one passenger for each 120 cubic feet.
(c) Second Class. In addition to the number of properly fitted beds within cabins containing not more than four beds each, other cabins are to be assessed according to the least of the following numbers:-
