48. GALLEYS.—(Addition to paragraph 17).

At the end of sub-paragraph (a) add the following words: "At least two such houses shall be provided”.

49. DRINKING-WATER TANKS.--(Addition to paragraph 18).

(b) The tanks are to be so closed that the water can be supplied only by means of taps and pumps; fittings for sucking water are not to be permitted.

50. CONDENSER. A condenser, capable of distilling a minimum quantity of 5 litres (1.10 imperial gallons) of drinking water per day for every person on board, is to be provided.

51. HOSPITALS, ETC. (Alterations and additions to paragraph 19).

(1) Sub-paragraph (1) (c). Substitute 32 superficial feet for 24 superficial feet.

(2) Add the following sub-paragraphs :-

(8)—(a) Provision is also to be made for the fitting up of additional hospital accommodation of a temporary nature of such size and capacity, that the permanent hospitals and the temporary hospitals together provide accommodation for at least 4 per 100 or portion of 100 pilgrims which the ship carries. The aggregate deck area of the hospitals is to be sufficient to allow 32 square feet per patient.

(b) Any space on the weather deck approved by the Principal Surveyor of Ships and the Port Health Officer may be considered as a temporary hospital provided it is protected by double awnings and side screens.

(c) The arrangement of the temporary hospital accom- modation is to be such that persons suffering from infectious diseases, and persons who have been in contact with them, can be isolated according to the nature of their illness.

(d) Temporary hospitals are to be provided with separate latrines to the satisfaction of the Principal Surveyor of Ships and the Port Health Officer.

(9) Every pilgrim ship is to be equipped with a safe and efficacious disinfecting chamber.

52. NUMBER OF PASSENGERS.--Subject to the amend- ments indicated in this paragraph, the instructions given in paragraph 25 relating to passenger numbers for short international voyages shall apply to all pilgrim ships.
