31. GENERAL. The passenger accommodation is to be in accordance with the instructions given in paragraphs 9 to 23 subject to the amendments indicated in paragraphs 32 to 43.

32. COMPARTMENTS IN WAY OF OIL FUEL SPACES.- (Alteration in paragraph 3).

Sub-paragraph (a) is not to apply.

33. ENTRANCES AND EXITS.-(Additions to paragraphi 10).

At the end of the proviso in sub-paragraph (2) add the words: "The first tier of erections above the freeboard deck is not to be regarded as an enclosed superstructure for the purpose of this paragraph".

"The fitting of steel deckhouses in way of stairway openings in the deck next above the freeboard deck is not to apply, subject to the provision of permanent steel companions in way of such openings forward of a point distant th the vessel's registered length from the stem and the fitting of guard rails in accordance with paragraph 6 elsewhere”.

34. STAIRWAYS.-(Alterations in paragraph 11).

(1) Sub-paragraph to be substituted for sub-paragraph (4).

The aggregate width of the stairways from each between deck passenger space is to be not less than one inch for every five persons accommodated therein.

(2) Sub-paragraph to be substituted for sub-paragraph

Where stairways from between decks are led into a com- partment in a deckhouse on the weather deck, the aggregate width of the openings from such compartment to the exposed deck is to be not less than the width required for the stair- ways with the addition thereto of one inch for every five persons accommodated in the compartment.

In all other cases approved means for egress to the wea- ther decks are to be provided.

$5. VENTILATION.-(Addition to paragraph 12).

At the end of sub-paragraph (6) add the words: Unberthed passenger spaces within deckhouses on or above the weather deck may be regarded as being properly ventilat- ed without the adoption of cowl or mechanical systems if the surveyor is of the opinion that a sufficient supply of fresh air is otherwise available."
