TRANSFER OF RECORDS:

1.

Please refer to your minute of 22 October to Terry Rooney, to which was attached a copy of a fax received from Grant Austin of the Home Office Nationality Team in Hong Kong about the disposal of certain files connected with the British Nationality Selection Scheme.

2. I have now also received a copy of Chris Kelly's reply to Mr Austin. I agree that both the registration files and the policy files in connection with the selection scheme should be returned to the Home Office. However, assuming that most of the successful applicants will continue to be resident in Hong Kong after 1997, the passport files, both for the Selection Scheme applicants and the non scheme applicants should be transferred to the Consulate-General. Passport application forms will be destroyed in line with existing FCO practice, ie after 11 years, provided that corresponding index slips for all applications have been made out.
