ELECTORAL ARRANGEMENTS/TALKS
- I am very pleased indeed that, after some pretty difficult and frustrating months, we have now managed to get talks with China underway. We have held 4 rounds of talks so far, in a good, businesslike atmosphere. As you know, the fourth round ended 3 days ago and we have agreed to hold a fifth round (?7-9 June).
- As agreed with the Chinese Government, the content of these talks is confidential, but their scope was defined in the announcement on 13 April.

We
- I have had some very useful discussions during my visit here with the Governor, and with the Executive Council earlier today.
We are all determined to work for a successful outcome to these
talks that is in the best interests of Hong Kong. The Governor and I are in full agreement on what our approach should be. Contrary to what you might read in some newspapers, there are no differences between us.
Any 'secret deals'?
Talks are about electoral arrangements which will have to be made public in the form of draft legislation. So no question of
'secret deals'.
