Press reports of UNHCR withdrawing from camps?

No truth in this at all. The UNHCR Chief of mission has
said his organisation will remain in Hong Kong for as long as
is necessary to deal with the boat people.
- We expect the UNHCR to remain, and to discharge all its financial commitments until this long-standing problem is solved.
UK financial contribution
From 1989 to date the UK has contributed more than £56 million towards a solution of the problem. We expect to make contributions totalling £10 million in 1993/94. (There is also the considerable efforts put into solving this problem by the British Embassy in Hanoi).
US trade embargo.
- We continue to encourage the US to lift its trade embargo against Vietnam as soon as possible.
