HONG KONG REPRESENTATION AT INTERNATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATION UNION (ITU) MEETINGS
1.
Mike Goddard of the DTI's Radiocommunications Agency (DTI/RA) has advised that Hong Kong has asked for representation in the UK delegation to the ITU's forthcoming Radiocommunications Assembly and World Radiocommunication Conference in November. According to Mr Goddard, Hong Kong are keen to be included as a delegate in order to persuade China to allow them the same status after 1997.
2.
Although the DTI/RA were originally concerned that there would not be room in the delegation for an additional member, they eventually decided in favour. The Hong Kong delegate, however, will not be speaking separately.
3.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

There seems to have been some confusion here. Department of the Environment replied to Miss Wu's letter on the 20 July in a letter sent to the Agriculture and Fisheries Department, Hong Kong Government (I enclose a copy), asking them to contact Mr Daniel in our Environment, Science and Energy Department to make the necessary arrangements. If you still wish to send a representative to the conference I suggest you contact Mr Daniel as soon as possible - His fax number is 071-210-0447.
