Background

Simon Li, the Hong Kong Deputy Director of the Preparatory Working Group which was set up by the National People's Congress in Peking recently to prepare for the transition of sovereignty, has made some unhelpful remarks about the through train. In particular he has publicly named 4 liberal LegCo members : Martin Lee, Szeto Wah (UDHK), Christine Loh and Emily Lau (Independents), as people who would not be allowed to ride the through train.
Chinese officials (including Zhou Nan, the Director of NCNA) have dismissed these remarks as personal views. They have also been criticised by other political figures in Hong Kong (eg Allen Lee of the Liberal Party and Fred Li of Meeting Point).
