The latest meeting of ADLOMICO was held on 15 December and I enclose the usual statistics for drug seizures etc in Korea.

2. The meeting was attended by Chris Eriksen, Drugs Liaison Officer for the Australian Federal Police in Hong Kong who gave a presentation on the current drug situation in Australia. I also enclose a copy of his paper in case it is of any interest. Eriksen also spoke briefly about the current situation in Hong Kong, saying that it continues to be a major centre, not only for arranging drug imports into other countries but also as a haven for money laundering and increasingly as a trans-shipment point for heroin from the Golden Triangle to Southern Chinese provinces. He said there was also evidence of South China being used for amphetamine production and export but gave no figures and claimed that the Chinese Public Security Bureau were cooperating in tackling this. It might be worth mentioning in this context that the Chinese here have agreed to participate in ADLOMICO meetings, now that they have diplomatic relations with the ROK. They were represented at this meeting by Mr Pan Zhiying, their

Counsellor.

Hitherto the ADLOMICO meetings have focussed almost entirely on the drugs situation in Korea but in an effort to boost their usefulness and interest it has been suggested that other participants should also give brief presentations on the drug situation in their own countries. I would be happy to do this if it was thought useful and wonder whether you have any suitable material on which I could draw in making such a presentation?

On a separate matter, in a recent meeting with a contact from the Agency for National Security Planning (the local equivalent of the CIA) I asked whether the NSP had any
