Why is a unit from Hong Kong being used for this task?

A. The Army regularly reviews its commitments and available

assets. In this case it was judged sensible to use one of the

Hong Kong battalions in order to give greater flexibility to use

UK based units for other tasks.

Units from Hong Kong have served an emergency tour

elsewhere:

for example in Cyprus and during the Gulf war. This

is the first time an infantry battalion will have been involved.
