HONG KONG BATTALION TO BELIZE
An infantry battalion from Hong Kong will be conducting the
next 6 months unaccompanied deployment to Belize, Central
America. Second Battalion, Gurkha Rifles based at Cassino Lines
will undertake the task starting in October and returning in
March 1994. A small ear party and the battalion's families will
remain in Hong Kong.
BACKGROUND
The British garrison in Belize is about 1500 strong. One
infantry battalion is rotated through the country every 6 months
on an unaccompanied tour. Gurkha battalions based in the UK
have previously served in Belize.
