Visit to Washington

I shall be visiting Washington from 2 to 5 March for the usual pastoral visit.

I enclose a copy of my minute commissioning briefs in the Cabinet office.

As usual, however, there will be an important section which would be best covered by briefing from the Foreign Office, ie issues such as US defence policy, arms control, European defence, COCOM. Other issues may suggest themselves to you.

I should be most grateful if you could ask Foreign Office departments to let me have briefs on these subjects by 21 February. They need not be tailor-made. A copy of some existing brief would be quite adequate.
