Many thanks for your letter and for forwarding a copy of the letter from your constituent, Peter Bourne. It was good to hear from you again.

You are right of course in saying that Hong Kong is deeply committed to free trade. We are indeed. . Part of our general minimum-interference approach is to let businesses like China Light and Power (which is a first-rate firm) make their own decisions.

I will pass a copy of your letter to Peter Heap, the Senior British Trade Commissioner, since this is very much his field.

Best wishes over the next few weeks, I imagine you will be thinking of many things other than Hong Kong!
