Born in the UK in 1942, Mr Delbridge graduated from the London School of Economics with a BSc (Econ) degree in 1963 and earned an MBA in 1968 from the University of California at Berkeley,

Mr Delbridge joined Arthur Andersen & Co in 1963, initially in the audit division, later transferring to the management consultancy division. He became a partner in April 1974.

Richard Delbridge joined Midland 1 November 1989. He became a member of the group board as finance director in December 1989.

Mr Delbridge is a former member of the board of The Securities Association and he is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered

Accountants in England and Wales (FCA).
