Comment 5. The new political party has been mooted on and off for quite a while and has recently gathered more steam following the tacit support given by the Chinese officials. This is obviously an attempt by the Chinese to organise their supporters in a more systematic way with a view to putting up a more credible performance at the polls in 1995. The group's main constituency would be those who are sympathetic to the Chinese

cause.

Subject to your views I suggest I should maintain informal contact with Tam Yiu-chung, in much the same way that we maintain liaison with other political parties. We should also be able to offer advice on the registration procedures.
