Main features of the New Pension Scheme for Judicial Officers

Retirement age
The normal retirement age is
(i) 65 for Supreme Court Judges;
(ii) 65 for District Court Judges appointed on or
after 1 January 1987;
District Court Judges appointed.

65 for Registrar and Deputy Registrars, Supreme Court; and
60 for Assistant Registrars, Member, Lands Tribunal, judicial officers presiding over specialised Tribunals and Magistrates.
Officers are normally required to serve a notice period of twelve calendar months before retirement. The Chief Justice may, however, accept a shorter period of notice in exceptional circumstances.
Pension factor
The pension factor for the calculation of pension benefits is 1/675 of the officer's highest pensionable emoluments for each month of his pensionable service.
(C) Maximum pension
The maximum pension payable is two-thirds of the highest pensionable emoluments.
(D) Eligibility for pension and short service gratuity

Officers who retire under approved circumstances set in Annex A (i) after completing the specified qualifying service are eligible for an annual pension. Those who retire with less than the specified qualifying service are only eligible for a one-off payment of short service gratuity which is 7 times the annual pension that would have been payable had there been по requirement for qualifying service.
