the officer on 30 June 1997 and his normal retirement age, whichever is the lesser figure, and each instalment will be due on 30 June of the year to which it relates.

(3) Such instalments will be paid to an entitled officer who on the date on which the instalment is due is in the service of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, or seconded by the Government of the SAR for service

outside Hong Kong or to a non-governmental agency within Hong Kong

Except as provided in paragraph 9 below, an entitled Kong. office will not be eligible for any instalment falling due officer after he ceases to be in the service of the Government of the Special Administrative Region or so seconded.

(4) The amount of each instalment will be increased to take account of any movement in the United Kingdom Retail Price Index as determined by the United Kingdom Pensions Increase (Review) Order which comes into force in the April of the year in which the instalment is due.

ENTITLED OFFICERS WHO LEAVE THE SERVICE OF THE SAR IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES

9.

An entitled officer who satisfies the Secretary of State that he has been required to retire from the service of the Government of the Special Administrative Region on the abolition of his office, for the purpose of facilitating improvements in the organisation of the department in which he was serving by which greater efficiency or economy may be effected, or on medical grounds not involving his own misconduct, will be eligible to receive as soon as possible after his retirement the unpaid balance of the notional maximum sum together with any increase referred to in paragraph 8 (3) as determined in accordance with any Pensions Increase (Review) Order made since he last received a payment under the Scheme.

DEATH

10.

Where an entitled officer dies while serving the Government of the Special Administrative Region, his dependents or personal representatives will be entitled to receive as soon as possible the unpaid balance of his notional maximum sum with any increase as referred to in paragraph 9.

PLACE OF PAYMENT AND RATE OF EXCHANGE

11.

Any payment under this Scheme to an entitled officer or to his dependants or personal representatives will be paid, in accordance with any request made from time to time by the officer or his dependants or personal representatives, as the case may be, in any of the following places:
