THE PRIME MINISTER

LONDON SWIA 2AA

For the Charg they
Douglas Hurd and I were delighted to have the opportunity to
visit the City Polytechnic. Even in the short time I was there,
I saw enough to be greatly impressed. Hong Kong is developing as
a knowledge based society, in which its greatest asset will be
the skills of its people. The contribution the City Polytechnic
is making to that was very evident. I very much appreciated the
warm welcome which your students gave me.
Their energy,
commitment and courtesies are a credit to the City Polytechnic.
Please pass my thanks to the Director and his staff for the
care they took in setting up the visit. I was sorry I could not
stay longer.
Finally, may I thank you for my own personal seal in
Chinese. When I use it to sign my communications with the
mandarins of Whitehall they may finally understand what I am
saying! Norma was thrilled to learn that her book was so easily
tracked down.
The Hon. Cheng Hon-kwan, OBE, JP.
