DESIGNATION ORDERS

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 21 January, informing the Government of the United Kingdom that the Hong Kong Order designating the United Kingdom under the Drug Trafficking (Recovery of Proceeds) (Designated Countries and Territories) Order 1991 was made on 8 January 1991, and commenced on 18 January 1991.

I have the honour to confirm that the Government of the United Kingdom has designated Hong Kong under the Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986. I enclose a copy of the Designation Order. The Order in Council was passed by the Privy Council on 26 June and came into force on 1 July. The Arrangement between the United Kingdom and Hong Kong for the provision of Mutual Assistance in the Restraint and Confiscation of the Proceeds of drug trafficking will, therefore, come into operation on 28 August 1991.

3. I have the further honour to inform you that Scotland and Northern Ireland have also designated Hong Kong under their equivalent legislation.
