Information from VBP New Arrivals

Land route via China

1.1

Of the 164 VBP arrived between 16th and 28th February, 156 crossed the Sino-Vietnamese land border to China before obtaining boats to carry on their journey to Hong Kong by sea.

1.2

One group of 2 left Ho Chi Minh City on 30.1.90. They travelled to Hai Ninh in N.VN and crossed the land border to Dong Xing(), China. Assisted by an ex-Vietnam Chinese in Sha Guan), they bought a boat at Tai Ping (7). They left Tai Ding on 15.2.90 and arrived Hong Kong on 16.2.90. (VRD 15/90)

42 VBP from Ho Chi Minh City S.VN reported that they crossed the Sino-Vietnamese land border via Dong Xing in early November 1989 in separate groups. They rejoined at Dong Xing (), China and stayed there for 11⁄2 month to look for a boat. With the help of a boatmate's Chinese relative, they bought a boat at RMB 12,000 at Qi Sha (). The group set sail from Jiang Ping (1) on 18.12.90, stopped over Nao Zhou Dao (3), Dian Bai (2 Zha Po(); Xia Chuan Dao(T and Gao Lan Dao) and arrived Hong Kong on 19.2.90. The boat had been inspected by PRC officials at Zha Po() and no replenishment was provided. (VRD 16/90)

A group of 13 left Ho Chi Minh City on 3.1.90 and crossed the Sino-Vietnamese land border via Mong Cai to Dong Xing (£) on 9.1.90.. After stopping over at Huashi Farm, Fang Cheng, Guang Xi (5#*) for 11⁄2 month, they moved onto Bao An () where they sought a boat at RMB 8,000. They left Bao An on 26.2.90 and arrived Hong Kong on 27.2.90. (VRD 19/90)

A boat with 104 VBP arrived on 28.2.90. The main group of 91 from Hai Phong, N.VN crossed the Sino-Vietnamese land border to Dong Xing) from 1.11.89 to 21.11.89 in separate small batches to avoid being detected. One sailed an empty boat to Jiang Ping (1), China to pick up the land crossers. They left Jiang Ping (*) on 1.12.89 and because of engine trouble, they had to stop over at Fang Cheng (P) from 2.12.89 to 23.12.89 and Qi Sha () from 29.12.89 to 10.2.90. They further hugged along the coast,

They picked up two groups of 5 and 8 ship wrecked VBP respectively at Macao and Gui Shan Dao (FÉLIE ). The group of 5 were land crossers from Ho Chi Minh City. They bought a boat at Zan Shui (), Guang Dong to carry on their journey by sea. Their boat broke down at Macao.
