There were 3 goldsmith/watch shop robberies (all successful) in

October, compared with 7 (5 successful) in September. In total, jewellery

and watches valued at HK$3 million were stolen. There have been 86

goldsmith/watch shop robberies up to October this year, compared with 55 in

the corresponding period of last year.

6.

Twenty bank robberies, (13 successful) occurred with HK$442,200

stolen during the month, compared with 13 (9 successful) in September.

Burglary

7.

The total number of burglaries in October was 1 205, representing 38.9 cases a day, an increase of 5.8% over the preceding month and a rise of

18.0% compared with the monthly average for the previous 12 months.

Homicide

8.

There were 9 homicides recorded during the month, compared with 17

in September. Five homicides which occurred during the month have been detected so far. Of the homicides which were reported during the month, 4

cases resulted from domestic disputes and 2 were drug related. The total

number of homicides in the first ten months of this year was 114 (2 cases

were reclassified from woundings), compared with 84 in the same period last

year.

Wounding and Serious Assault

9.

There were 545 wounding and serious assault cases in October, representing 17.6 cases a day, a drop of 4.3% over September. This daily

average was also a decrease of 7.2% compared with the monthly average for

the previous 12 months.

Indecent Assault on Female and Rape

10.

There were 121 indecent assault on female cases in October,

representing 3.9 cases per day. This daily rate was an increase of 15.9%

compared with September and a rise of 43.0% compared with the monthly

average for the previous twelve months. The total number of rapes in October was 11, compared with 9 in September and the monthly average of 9

for the previous 12 months.
