Pickpocketing and Snatching

The total number of pickpocketing cases in October was 67,

representing 2.2 cases per day, a rise of 41.0% compared with September but

a decrease of 15.7% over the monthly average for the preceding 12 months.

12.

There were 224 snatchings in October, representing a daily rate of

7.2 cases per day, a decrease of 5.3% over September but an increase of

43.7% over the daily average for the previous twelve months.

Shop Theft

13.

Offences of shop theft was recorded at a daily rate of 14.1 cases

in October, the same figure as in September and a drop of 10.5% compared

with the daily average for the previous twelve months.

Vehicle Crimes

14.

There were 661 taking conveyance without authority (TCWA) cases in

October, representing 21.3 cases a day. This daily average was a marginal decrease of 0.4% over the preceding month but a rise of 31.3% compared with

the daily average of 16.2 cases for the preceding twelve months. There have

been 5 380 TCWA's up to October this year, compared with 3 651 in the same

period last year.

15.

The total number of theft from vehicle cases was 363, representing

a daily average of 11.7 cases per day, a rise of 4.2% over September. This

daily average was however a 14.8% decrease over the monthly average for the

last 12 months.

Crimes Involving Juveniles and Young Persons

16.

There were 527 juvenile offenders aged under 16 arrested for crime

in October, compared with 439 in the preceding month and the monthly average

of 557 for the previous 12 months. There have been 5 419 juveniles arrested

for crime up to October this year, compared with 5 811 in the corresponding

period last year. The total number of juvenile crimes in October was 366

compared with 298 in September. Of the total juvenile crimes which occurred

in October, 187 were thefts other than burglary and 36 were robberies.
