Dear Mr Attryde,
Re: Mr Peter Po-Yee Chiu & Mr Ringo Fuk-Wah Leung
I and Mr Leung are the representative office managers of
Dow Chemical (China) Ltd, Shanghai. We started this assignment from March 1, 1988. Both of us were born in HongKong and bearers of The British Hong Kong Passports.
From July 6, 1989, The Public Security Bureau, foreigners entry/exit control division launched a string of investigation with our local employees (6 of them altogether ) in aim to understand their activities during the student movement.
During those interrogations, there were questions regarding Mr Leung and I. All was fine until on July 28, Mr Leung was summoned by a phone call at 9:15 am telling him to appear at the public security office in 15 minutes. When Mr Leung explained that it was such short notice and 2 appointments were arranged that morning and requested same day afternoon appearance at their office, they shot back and remarked that they didn't care and if he didn't come by 9:30 am, they will get him in a more formal way like sending guys in uniforms and warrant ( I am sure they would have come to our office armed and with handcuffs). Under such circumstances, Mr Leung went and was questioned for 2 hours with a statement made listing all the things he has done in May Mr Leung was in Hong Kong from May 25 to July 25 ).
In protection of Mr Leung's well-being, I immediately called. up Mr Ma Jin-Sheng of your honorable consulate for advices/ assistance and did likewise with the U.S.Consulate and our company's senior management.
