to securing agreements with cocaine producing countries, bearing in mind the cocaine conference next year. problem was that to the best of our knowledge, no cocaine producing country had compatible legislation.

Mr Fall suggested we might look at Uruguay. Mr Cooney said that the likes of Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia were of more importance to Customs. Mr White said that we had already approached these countries but had a very poor response. We should follow up.

Mr White suggested that we might write to all these countries again asking for an update of developments.

Mr Hawkins said that Hong Kong had now passed legislation but were still considering the format of an agreement with us.

Mr Fall added that, in the next few months, Mr Sainsbury would be visiting Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Cayman Isles, Barbados and Grenada.

Any Other Business

There was a brief discussion of asset sharing. It was agreed that the Treasury's offer represented progress.

Mr Vallance explained that work on orders in Council was progressing well. Work had started on Bahamas, Bermuda and Guernsey. He hoped that other countries who were ready for designation could be added to the schedule. The plan was to lay this before Parliament in the spill-over to this session. Mr Hawkins noted that it was important to designate Canada as soon as possible.

Mr White then brought up the question of extension of the Swiss exchange of letters to cover all crime.
