Trunk koad - Alignment and Operational Aspects

4.1

The trunk road is planned to be below ground in tunnel for

the section from Central to Exhibition, a tenath of

2.4 km. This is the section of reclamation which will be

most intensively developed and the tunnel location has been selected to remove traffic from the new development areas, to reduce the impact of traffic and road structures from

these areas, and to increase the area of land available for

development. It also would allow for late relocation of

LMS Tame'.

4.2 The location of the trunk road will be below a major new

distributor road on the reclamation which has been located

to give the best arrangement for access and circulation and

the preferred land development plan. A The Central ami

Tamar cells the trunk road tunnel will be towards the

centre of the new reclamation whilst at the Exhit ition cell

it will be close to the existing seawall.

4.3 The trunk road has been planned to allow for all

operational requirements of major roads in tunnels :-

advance direction sigining will be provided

where required within the tunnel;

overheight vehicle detection will be provided

at all entry locations;

tunnel close will be pessible for maintenance

and emergencies with traffic directed to other

Tubes on to the surface road network.
