As by now only the survey results for the third quarter of 1988 are available,
it will be prudent not to regard the pattern of outward processing activities obtained
for this quarter as representative of the annual pattern. There may be seasonal
variations in this pattern, which will require a longer time series to detect.
Moreover, the large sampling variations for some estimates at the commodity level,
as reflected by the wide confidence intervals
suggest that annual results should be used to derive more reliable estimates for
detailed analysis.
