statistics (see para. 3 above). The quarterly statistics for Jul-Sep 1988

are published in the December 1988 issue of the Hong Kong External Trade (HKET)

report. In future the survey results will continue to be published on a

quarterly basis in the March, June, September and December issues of the HKET

report. In the report, only the quarterly statistics at the aggregate level (i.e.

the estimated values and proportions of outward processing trade for domestic

exports, re-exports and total exports to China, without breaking down by

commodities) are published. The quarterly figures at the commodity level are

considered not sufficiently precise for publication.

Future development

18.

The present survey addresses only a specific part of the subject on

outward processing in China. A pilot study is being planned to test the questionnaire

and to assess the resources required for extending the scope of the survey

to include imports from China, so that the amount and proportion of Hong Kong's

imports from China associated with outward processing may also be estimated.
