The demand reduction efforts of PNCB, in conjunction with the National Federation of NGO's for Drug Abuse Prevention and other social welfare NGO's, has substantially increased in scope.

Nationwide drug abuse prevention and anti-poppy cultivation campaigns have been successfully undertaken with NAU/USAID/USIS funding by PNCB and the Federation of Non-government Organizations encompassing: public rallies; posters, banners and pamphlets; radio and TV ads and documentaries; and public anti-drug statements by business and religious leaders, as well as local and national government officials and politicians. The Narcotics Assistance Unit continues to fund PNCB drug abuse training for doctors, social workers, and non-government organizations (NGO) outreach personnel. PNCB, with assistance from the United Nations Fund for Drug Abuse Control (UNFDAC), has developed a drug orientation curriculum for use in the schools and approximately ninety teachers a month are being trained in drug awareness and abuse prevention. USAID

USIS have funded PNCB-sponsored press tours of NWFP development projects in poppy growing areas which have generated anti-poppy articles highlighting development projects in these areas.
