CALL BY SIR DAVID WILSON ON MR EGGAR: 22 JULY 1987

1. On students Sir D Wilson said that as agreed he would be

He putting proposals for 1988/89 to EXCO in September. needed to identify funding within Hong Kong and the new precedent of using general Government revenue for scholarships could prove politically controversial. Regrettably the trustees of the Sir Edward Youde Fund had declined to participate. 3. In an exchange on the drugs problem Sir D Wilson said that treatment schemes were well advanced, but money laundering was replacing trafficking as a key problem. Anti-Narcotics Unit in the Police was very effective and well locked into regional cooperation. US perceptions could be a problem in that they tended to put Hong Kong in the same bracket as other countries in the region with a less impressive record. Mr Eggar complimented Sir D Wilson on the impressive exhibit at ICDAIT.
