Method of Payment

19.

The lump sum compensation calculated in accordance with paragraphs 11 to 18 for officers who retire in accordance with paragraph 2 shall where possible be paid in full one month before an officer commences his pre-retirement leave. In the case of an officer who is on leave when given permission or directed to retire the compensation shall be paid as soon as possible after the permission is granted, or direction to retire given. In the case of an officer who is to be compensated in accordance with sub-paragraph 2(a) but who does not retire the lump sum compensation shall be paid in full as soon as possible after he has been superseded.

The Giving of Notice by Eligible Officers

20.

Six months' notice of retirement under the Scheme will be the normal rule, provided that a shorter period of notice may be accepted by mutual agreement between the officer and the Government.

If an officer is given permission or directed to retire whilst on leave the normal period of notice will be waived, he will be granted any balance of leave due to him, he will be allowed the full retirement baggage facilities to which he would have been entitled had he retired in normal circumstances to enable him to transport his effects from Hong Kong, and his service will be deemed to finish on the expiration of the leave due to him. The Governor will have discretion to grant passages at Government expense to and from Hong Kong for the officer himself (but not for his family) to enable him to settle his affairs.

Additional Benefits

22.

An eligible officer, other than an officer on leave, who is directed to retire at less than the normal period of notice, or who has been given permission to retire after six months notice and is subsequently requested to retire earlier, will be eligible for the following additional benefits:-

(a) he will receive (before or as soon as possible after his departure on leave) a disturbance grant equal to one-quarter of his annual pensionable emoluments;
