of urban development, the emphasis will be placed on the building of key

infrastructure facilities. Fowever, the programming of these schemes, particularly the port development

Guangdong Province. Thus, an opportunity to discuss

and c exchange views on strategic planning between

In order to meet the increasing demand of modern shipping requirements and to provide an efficient and well planned port, the Port Development Strategy Study was commenced in early 1985. With 3 phases of investigation, the study aimed (a) to project trade forecasts up to the year 2001, (b) to consider now the cormodities identified would be carried to hong Kong, and (c) the need for additional facilities by 2001 if the projected demand is to be met.

Current statistics show that there is а strong linkage between the port of PK and the use of that

port by China and Guangdong Province. As such, the growth of the economy in China and in particular in Guangdong Province has in turn a positive effect or the development of the port of Pong Kong.
