were killed at their home. A suspect had claimed to visit his relatives in China on the date of the murder. In the belief that the persons whom the suspect had contacted in. the mainland would provide valuable information concerning the case, CP thereby proposed to send RHKP officers to inter- view the witnesses. Mr Liu Wen agreed and promised to send an official approval to Interpol Hong Kong.

Regionalization of Interpol countries in Asia was discussed. The Chinese side felt that the Asian Interpol Liaison Office should be in Bangkok. CP commented that he would consider the matter and give his view at the Interpol Asian Regional Conference to be held in Tokyo in July this year.

The Hong Kong side noted that the incumbent Staff Officer of Interpol NCB Hong Kong would be transferred in the near future as a routine posting arrangement within the Force. The Chinese side expressed appreciation of the officer's work and assistance during his tenure in establishing the good working relationship between the 2 sides.

In Guangzhou

Meetings were held between the RHKP delegation and officials from Guangdong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen PSBs including the Interpol Liaison Office. Discussions centred on matters of co-operation and law enforcement between the 2 jurisdictions. The Chinese representatives kept referring to decisions and policies made by the Beijing NCB which denotes Mr Liu Wen's control over relevant policing in Guangdong Province.

New Modus Operandi of criminals who committed thefts. at hotels in Hong Kong recently were passed to the Chinese side for information.

Both parties mentioned the problem of pickpockets who visited Shenzhen from Hong Kong to perpetuate crime. CP advised that RHKP was monitoring groups of pickpockets who travelled to China. The photographs and particulars of identified suspects were given to the Chinese.

15.

The delegation was informed that the means of communications between RHKP and the Guangdong Liaison Office were for the time being confined to letters and telephone. A telex system would be installed at the Liaison Office to facilitate contact in the near future.
