The question of smuggling of antiquities,

surprisingly, preoccupied the Chinese a good deal. We should be grateful for any comments on the Chinese reference to "the United Nations treaty on illegal transfer of artistic treasures" (Annex E) which the FCO can provide. It is not on our list of treaties applied to Hong Kong.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the help provided by the Embassy in arranging the CP's Visit.
